Hormone Balancing Smoothie

Why doesn’t anyone talk about hormones?

It’s bad enough that we are so confused about what to eat when it comes to losing weight or feeling good. Then try figuring out the hormones responsible for PMS, perimenopause and menopause. You can go on the internet and read millions of websites and render yourself paralyzed from the black hole you have just gotten yourself in. Even from your doctor, with more opinions and only medication options.

My philosophy is to always use food first for two really important reasons: food has been proven to be powerful medicine and we can’t control everything in our lives but we can certainly control what we eat.  In a world of food confusion, sticking to real, whole foods always works.

But back to hormones. I am going to be talking more about hormones and how they affect us in future posts starting with this one. Truth be told, I have days when I feel like I am a slave to my cycle. My energy sinks, I get sad, and seriously, don’t even look at me the wrong way if you try to cut in front of me in your car. Could be trouble. I refuse to be satisfied with the “it’s just part of being a woman” mantra and I am determined to find solutions to help find balance.

I’m starting with my Hormone Balancing Smoothie. I love smoothies for their ability to pack in all sorts of good nutrition into one glass and just get the job done.

I added in the top ingredients I researched to help level out hormones. Of course this smoothie has to taste good too. It’s all taken care of.

Here’s what’s in my Hormone Balancing Smoothie:

Cinnamon – very anti-inflammatory and helps regulate blood sugar
Maca Powder – can help increase libido, and help with hot flashes, mood and sleep problems in women going through perimenopause or menopause
Matcha Powder – can help boost brain function (as in, remembering where you parked your car at the Whole Foods!)
Flax Seeds – can help with hot flashes and mood
Soy Milk – contains phytoestrogens, which act like a weaker form of estrogen
Avocado – high in fiber, healthy fats and vitamins, avocado keeps you filled and satisfied
Almond butter – healthy fats and high levels of magnesium help keep us calm
Kale – is there more of a superfood on this planet? Almost zero calories, and throught the roof in calcium and every vitamin you can think of
Banana – high in fiber and nutrients, bananas help even out blood sugar
Mango – high in antioxidants and fiber

This smoothie is thick too, you can practically eat it with a spoon and pretend it’s dessert. Try this simple smoothie today to help balance your hormones and let’s keep the conversation going. Do you have anything that has worked for you to help balance your hormones? Share them below.
